Darick Gangaram, bridal hair magician and my best friend, shares his on advice on when to work for free and when to say no, setting boundaries in your client correspondence and how overthinking your end results is wasting your time and sanity.
Thanks for your support while we get this going & iron out the kinks. There are a couple timbits of audio in our chat that are a little bit distorted so hate your device, it’s not its fault!
SHOW NOTES
⁃ When creating a new look, have fun and trust your instinct. Do things that you think will work and don’t be afraid to be yourself because your an artist! Instead of throwing money at training all the time, rely on trial and error to figure out what does or doesn’t work. Then, invest in education to help with the bits you’re still struggling with and to keep up with the trends
⁃ Don’t overthink the final results. You can always adjust at the end
⁃ Know your worth. There are times that it’s ok to work for free and there are times where it’s absolutely not. Charge your worth and don’t work for free unless it’s in an industry that you want to break into or you have full creative control of the final result.
⁃ You didn’t get into this industry to work every minute of every day. You need to have boundaries. Schedule a time for emails and client correspondence so it’s not taking over your entire life.
